About David

David McGroarty is an actor and writer from Glasgow in Scotland. His acting credits include a number of films and a variety of stage productions encompassing classical, modern, devised, improvised and children's theatre. As a writer, David has collaborated on several short comedies for the stage. From 2006 to 2007, he was featured as a finalist in Empire Magazine's Thunderdome competition for aspiring film writers.

Background

In 2000, David graduated with an honours degree in software engineering from the University of Glasgow. He has worked as a computer programmer, helpdesk attendant, civil servant, cashier clerk and IT service manager, whilst pursuing parallel careers as an actor and writer. After relocating to North London, he auditioned for the Academy Drama School, and was immediately offered a place on the full time course. David trained for two years and graduated in the summer of 2005.

Training

In training, David performed in classic plays by Shakespeare and Moliere, and adaptations of works by Seneca and Charlotte Bronte. His training included voice and movement, as well as singing, verse reading, stage combat, physical theatre and comedy. As an improviser, David has over four years of workshop experience using the techniques of both Keith Johnstone and Viola Spolin.

Interests

David is a lifelong obsessive cinema-goer. When he was six years old, he knew the entire script of Star Wars by heart. (He claims now to have forgotten most of it.) David owns two guitars, the quieter of which he plays regularly, and also produces electronic music in his home studio. His musical tastes range from Miles Davis, through the Super Furry Animals to Underworld.

David hopes one day, finally, to get his band together.
